Hydrodiffusion
Based on similar principals to that of Steam Distillation,
yet not as widely available or employed, is hydrodiffusion.
Steam is produced above, rather than below, the plant
material. Rather than moving naturally upwards, it is
forced down through the aromatic plant charge. The oils
produced can be richer, often denser and of a superior
aromatic bounty. The most promising aspect to this method
is that the distillation time is shortened and for oils
that normally require inordinate amounts of time to
evolve, such as wood and root oils, this is much appreciated.
